Liacon’s new Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery isn’t your typical LFP battery. It has power. 1,000 cranking amps of power to be precise. Liacon’s LFP battery is built to be a drop-in replacement for all Group 31 lead acid batteries. Yes, the ones that start heavy-duty diesel engines, like the one shown in this video. Lead acid batteries are the mainstay of the heavy vehicle industry because of their significant cranking capacity, needed to start their large diesel engines. Now, Liacon’s new LFP battery offers a direct replacement alternative for lead acid batteries, which are flexible, longer-lasting, and more sustainable.
In the demonstration above, TRION Battery Technologies (Liacon’s parent company) CEO, Timothy Mayne, connects two LFP batteries in series (24V) to a semi-trailer to start its engine. Each LFP battery is 12.8V, 150Ah, with 1,000 cranking amps and a cycle life of 4,000+ cycles. And as you can see, it has no trouble starting the semi-trailer’s diesel engine. Truly a gamechanger for any application traditionally powere by lead acid batteries.
Liacon’s LFP batteries contain no expensive heavy metals like cobalt or nickel. And there’s no lead either, which is toxic to the environment. Its 4,000+ cycle life is also 10 to 20 times higher than that of standard lead acid batteries.
The LFP chemistry is also more stable than other lithium-ion chemistries, resulting in a safer battery. Liacon’s Group 31 battery is designed to be a drop-in replacement for lead acid batteries in use today, meaning end-users require zero customizations or extra equipment on their part to use Liacon LFP batteries. Just out with the old, in with the new.
The design makes it ideally suited to a variety of applications, delivering superior performance and safety, as well as a lower total cost of ownership over the lifetime of the application compared to the lead-acid batteries used today.
